This tiny bat is being cared for by rescuers from East Huntspill’s Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre after getting stuck on a thistle.
The creature was found well and truly stuck after it became attached to the plant near Shapwick Heath.
Luckily, he was spotted by keen wildlife photographer Lynne Newton who cut the stem of the thistle and brought the bat into Secret World for treatment.
The centre’s carer Josie Nott told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The bat was extremely lucky to have been found by Lynne. He would surely have perished in the sun if he hadn’t been rescued so quickly.”
The plucky little chap did not sustain any serious injuries and has been successfully released back into the wild.
Lynne added: “I have photographed wildlife for years but this is the first time I have ever been so close to a bat. I didn’t realise how tiny they are and to be able to release it back into the wild was just amazing.”
Secret World say they have rescued many bats during the busy summer season, most of which will be returned back into the wild.
