Two public meetings on barrage plans to be held in Burnham and Brean

-

Two public meetings are set to be held in Burnham-On-Sea and Brean during April to discuss controversial plans to build a Severn Barrage across the Bristol Channel.

Burnham’s MP, David Heathcoat-Amory, has organised the two meetings for local people to discuss and ask questions about the Severn Tidal Power scheme – which could see a barrage being built between Brean Down and Wales, as pictured here.

One meeting will be held on Wednesday 15th April at Unity Holiday Resort in Brean at 7.30pm and the other will be held on Thursday 16th April at The Princess Hall in Burnham at 7.30pm.

The meetings will include a presentation from a representative from the Department of Energy & Climate Change, who will outline the current five proposals and answer questions.

The views expressed at the meeting will form part of the consultation process and will be relayed back to the government.

Mr Heathcoat-Amory told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The scheme, whether it is a barrage or a lagoon, could have huge consequences for the coastal area of Somerset.”

“The consultation period ends in April so these meetings are a good way of hearing local views and influencing the decisions.”

The government has issued a consultation paper earlier this year which highlighted five shortlisted sites, including a Barrage from Brean Down to Lavenock Point, and a Lagoon enclosing Bridgwater Bay.

If local residents would like to attend either of these meetings they must register in advance by email at office@wellsconservatives.com or by calling 01749 673146.
