-

An arson probe is underway into a ‘deliberate’ blaze near Burnham-On-Sea which destroyed a barn and large quantities of hay early on Saturday morning (July 29th).

As reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com, five fire crews from across the region were called to the blaze in Southwick Road, Mark, near Highbridge, shortly before 2.15am where a barn with 500 bales of hay was well alight.

It took several more than five hours to fully extinguish and damp down the fire – and the fire service has confirmed that the cause was “deliberate.”

Anyone with information should contact Burnham-On-Sea Police on the non-emergency number 101 to help the enquiries.

A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Three fire appliances, including one from Burnham-On-Sea, one from Bridgwater, one from Cheddar and the water carrier from Bridgwater, attended the barn on fire.”

“It was well alight on the arrival of crews. A fourth appliances was requested, from Bridgwater, along with an incident command unit from Street.”

It was a busy night for the crews, who were also called to an early morning crash in which a driver was rescued from an overturned car.
