-

Five lambs have been killed in a blaze which badly damaged a barn near Burnham-On-Sea early this morning (Sunday).

Three fire engines from Burnham-On-Sea and Taunton, along with a water carrier from Bridgwater, were called to Harp Road between Brent Knoll and Mark at 5.11am.

“On arrival crews confirmed there was a fire within a beam at the front of the barn and got to work extinguishing the fire using ahose reel jet and small tools,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“At 5.35am crews requested the attendance of the rescue tender from Taunton to use the acrow props to stabilise the building.”

“Crews cut away using small tools and used a thermal image camera to check for any fire spread -the rescue tender was turned back en route to the incident when crews confirmed the structure was secure.”

He added that the fire was extinguished at 6.11am.

“Sadly, five lambs died in the fire and duty of care was left with the farmer.”
