Burnham-On-Sea charity fundraiser thanked after 40 years of work

-

A Burnham-On-Sea charity fundraiser has been presented with an award for her work in helping St Margaret’s Hospice.

Barbara Fletcher’s fundraising activities began almost 40 years ago, when she attended a meeting for people who were interested in raising funds for the construction of a hospice in Taunton.

She went along as a willing helper and became the secretary of the Burnham fundraising group.

Promotion followed soon after St Margaret’s in Taunton was opened when she became the official area co-ordinator. This role saw her organising events, often in her home and garden, graciously accepting cheques, emptying collection boxes and generally raising the profile of the care given by the hospice.

Barbara has been presented with an honorary award to thank her for her achievements.

Julie Draper, Community Fundraiser for St Margaret’s, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Volunteers are a very special part of the organisation they are the cornerstone of St. Margaret’s and they contribute their skills and talents in a variety of ways.”

“To dedicate nearly forty years of your life to a charity is simply quite humbling. Barbara is a very special lady and I would like to thank her for being there for me.”

Barbara has now handed over her collection box duties to Mike and Denice Perrin, fellow fundraisers from Burnham-On-Sea, but she still retains an interest in fundraising activities.
