Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue is holding a recruitment evening this week for local people to find out how they can become part of the charity’s operational crew.
BARB operates life-saving hovercrafts and inshore inshore rescue boats from its seafront station and is holding the event from 7-9pm this Wednesday, 31st August.
“This is a great opportunity for people to get involved as we look to expand our numbers of operational crewmembers,” said Mike Lowe, Operations Manager.
“We already have a fantastic, dedicated team and would like to add more volunteers to our roster.”
“The roles include a range of activities, from launching our hovercrafts and boats to carrying out searches, with a chance to progress to helms and hovercraft pilots over time.”
Full training, support and equipment is provided and volunteers need to be aged 18+ and physically fit. Crewmembers need to live in the Burnham and Highbridge area so they can quickly respond to incidents when needed.
There are separate roles available at BARB for fundraisers and support team members – a separate recruitment event for those positions will follow.
