Crews from Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue and Burnham Coastguard took part in a major joint training session on Sunday (April 23rd) to rehearse a beach mud rescue at Berrow.
The mud rescue exercise took place ahead of the start of the busy tourist season beginning.
BARB’s hovercrafts were used to reach a hostile casualty and an unconscious casualty far out on the mudflats.
“This annual training exercise is always a great multi-agency session with close team working which acts as a valued refresher for the crews just before the tourist season,” said a spokesman.
In the event of a coastal emergency, always call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
