Burnham-On-Sea gets a Bank Holiday weekend trade boost

-

Burnham-On-Sea enjoyed a bumper weekend of tourism trade as the good weather brought in extra visitors to the town.

Beaches at Burnham-On-Sea, Berrow and Brean were packed with visitors enjoying the conditions.

Temperatures in Burnham peaked at 25.3°C on Sunday and 23.6°C on Bank Holiday Monday as the area enjoyed an extended weekend of settled weather.

Sunday’s Rescue Services Day on Burnham seafront attracted thousands of visitors, and Monday’s traditional Manor Gardens fete was also well supported.

Steve Wright of Seafoods, which operates a sea food stall on the seafront, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a very busy weekend of trade – all three days were great thanks to the good weather and Sunday’s rescue services day, but the summer as a whole has been disappointing due to the poor weather.”

And Christine Lewis at seafront gift shop Treasure Chest added: “The super weather over the last few days created a great weekend of trade after a so-so season overall.”

A spokesman for Burnham Chamber of Trade said: “It was great to see the town busy with visitors, bringing a late season boost for some businesses during the last weekend of the school holidays. Some are telling us that the changeable weather over the summer means it’s not been a fully positive summer for all.”

Ian Jefferies, manager at Burnham’s tourist information centre, added: “When the sun comes out, the visitors come too and while promoting our town to visitors is important, it’s the weather that really brings out people. It’s been a good end to the season after a difficult summer for some.”
