Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge band gets £3,000 for new uniforms

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s band has this week received a huge £3,000 cash windfall that will enable it to replace its 25 year-old uniforms.

County Councillor Mike Facey, who represents Burnham-On-Sea North, handed over the bumper cheque as part of a £5,000 grants allowance that he and other County Councillors are given each year to help local community initiatives.

Ken Henton, Chairman of Burnham and Highbridge Band, who is pictured receiving the cheque, said: “This is a wonderful and very timely donation.”

“We decided last year that we would try and replace our 25 year-old uniforms, but then our regular summer concerts in the Princess Hall were withdrawn and it was looking doubtful as to whether we would raise enough funds.”

“This money will enable us to buy 28 sets of uniforms, including new blazers and bow ties, which will be worn by our members at their concerts later in the year.”

Cllr Facey handed over the money during a special presentation at the band’s headquarters in Worston Road on Wednesday evening (February 14th).
