The Great Burnham-On-Sea Bake Off returns for another slice!

-

Home and professional bakers are being invited to get their aprons at the ready to begin perfecting their entries for the return of the Great Burnham Bake-Off on 28th September at the town’s autumn Food & Drink Festival.

There were dozens of entries for the two previous competitons and this new contest is an opportunity for home bakers and professionals to compete for glory and the Champion’s trophy.

Festival Director Sarah Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea,com: “We will have three categories on 28th September – Cake (open to home and professional bakers) and home baker only classes for bread and savoury pie.”

“To enter, bakers have to download an entry form, bake their entry and bring both along to Somerset Skills & Learning Centre on Princess Street before 2pm to be in with a chance.”

Festival Director Beverley Milner Simonds added: “We are very pleased to have award-winning pie maker Mervyn Watling of Wessex Pantry assisting with the judging and Madeline Francis, the competition-winning young chef who is a pupil at King Alfred School.”

Sponsor Alex Turco from Positive Wealth Creation said: “We are really pleased to be involved in the Bake Off again. We hope that all the aspiring bakers are inspired by the baking shows on the TV and work together to enter bakes that rise to the challenge.”

Once you have dropped your entry off there are over 70 stallholders from across Somerset all offering tastings, samples and opportunities to hear the stories behind the products at the free festival held in five indoor venues and a large street market in and around Victoria Street. It all makes for a great day-out whatever the weather.

There are also two other free to enter competitions – The Great Burnham Brew Off (a search for the best home-brew beer) and the Great Burnham Burn Off – a chilli eating competition hosted by The Clifton Chilli Club.

The festival offers a great opportunity to something new – there is certainly something for everyone with food as varied as Caribbean jerk chicken, deep south style pulled pork, wood fired pizza and more traditional pies, ales and cheese.

Entry to the festival will again be free and venues will open at 9am and shall include Somerset Skills & Learning, Baptist Church, Princess Theatre and Methodist Church.
