The Great Burnham Bake-Off baking competition is set to return in October with a brand new challenge.
The event will be held on Saturday 25th October during this year’s second Burnham Food and Drink Festival.
There will be three competitions covering cakes, wheat-free bread and a new technical challenge of making millionaire’s shortbread.
Organiser Beverley Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Great Burnham Bake Off has been such a popular competition at our last four Food & Drink Festivals that this time we have tweaked the categories to really test our home and professional bakers.”
“We are not only looking for the best cakes, which should only have edible items in them and on them, but also wheat-free bread from our individual bakers and six millionaire’s shortbreads for our technical challenge.”
Fellow organiser Sarah Milner Simonds added: “The technical challenge last time saw us searching for a dozen uniform scones – this time we want six matching pieces of millionaire’s shortbread.”
“The overall champion entry in May was an amazing loaf of bread so we have raised the bar a little for this category by specifying wheat-free doughs. There are so many people with wheat allergies we thought that this would give bakers the chance to showcase their skills in a different way.”
Sponsor Alex Turco from Positive Wealth Creation Ltd added: “Anyone who has ever licked a spoon can stand a chance to win the Great Burnham Bake-off trophy. Baking brings out the best in us and this competition should be seriously good fun.”
Previous winners should look out for a special invitation from the festival in the coming weeks and Burnham-On-Sea.com will be featuring the event further as it’s announced.
Bakers can download an entry form & rules from the festival website here and present a completed form and their bake before 2pm on Saturday 25th October at Somerset Skills & Learning in Burnham’s Princess Street.
