An injured badger and a swan were among the animals keeping volunteers busy over the Christmas period at Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre near Burnham-On-Sea.
Volunteers were called out on Christmas Day evening to help a badger after it was reported to have been struck by a passing car in Street.
A member of the public stayed with the distressed animal until one of Secret World’s response drivers arrived and took it to Quantock Veterinary Hospital in Bridgwater.
“Despite it nearly being midnight on Christmas Day, the vet was on hand to assess the badger before it came to Secret World,” said Pauline Kidner, Secret World’s Founder.
“The badger is now receiving supportive care and hopefully will be able to return back to the wild when better.”
The volunteers were also called out on Boxing Day to a swan that had nose-dived onto a road. The bird, right, is also recovering well.
Pauline said: “I am just so proud of our staff and volunteers who, no matter what time of day or night it is, are prepared to turn out and save wildlife. Praise too for Quantock Veterinary Hospital who are always there when we need them.”
