Avon and Somerset Police have received over 10,000 reports of people breaching the Government’s Coronavirus restrictions on staying home and social distancing.
Members of the public have got in contact by phone or completing an online form to inform the constabulary of people breaking the rules since the lockdown was introduced.
It comes after two men were arrested during an anti-lockdown protest in Glastonbury on Sunday (May 3rd). The gathering was dispersed by Police and the two men were held in custody. Three other people were given fixed penalty notices under the legislation.
A police spokesman adds: “Our officers are working hard to attend ongoing breach reports and will use your information from the online form to help build a picture of what is going on in your area.”
“We will use the data to identify hotspot areas and target our patrols to where they are needed most.”
“Whilst you may not see an officer in relation to your report of any past breaches straightaway, your local neighbourhood policing team are monitoring and acting upon submissions alongside attending ongoing breach incidents.”
“If there is an immediate or perceived threat to life, risk of serious damage to property or a serious offence is taking place, call 999.”
Anyone who witnesses an ongoing incident contrary to the Government’s guidelines, should call 101. Information about previous incidents can be reported online.
