Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club held its first mini tennis tournament of this year on Sunday (February 12th).
Unfortunately, a lack of numbers meant the Mini Red Ball Tournament (aimed at under 8s) did not go ahead but two of the Avenue’s Red Academy players played in a Mini Orange Tournament instead, competing against 8 to 9 year olds.
The tournament saw four players from Trull Tennis Club near Taunton and five from the Avenue split into two Round Robin Leagues where each played against the other.
For four of the Avenue players – two from the Red Academy – this was their first Orange Ball Tournament and Head Coach Vinny Duddy said all performed “extremely well and were a credit to the club with their sportsmanship and efforts.”

Vinny thanked all the parents who stayed on to support their children and said the tournaments take place every month, with the next ones on Sunday 4th March (Reds at 11am and Orange at 1pm).
The club is continuing to run coaching sessions for juniors every night of the week and on Saturdays for every age group and ability.
Avenue squad sessions re-start on Monday 20th February and the sessions will follow the LTA guidelines which have just been confirmed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
The next adult social mixed doubles tournament will be held on Sunday 26th February from around 11am when all will be invited to attend and play.
Group coaching for adults takes place on Thursdays (7.15pm until 9.15pm), Fridays (6.30pm until 8pm) and on Saturdays (2pm until 3.30pm). These are available to non-members or, alternatively, you can arrange private one-to-one coaching by calling the club on 01278 782758.
