Over 100 vintage vehicles visited Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday evening (June 2nd) for the 19th annual Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run.
Classic cars, bikes, lorries and emergency vehicles went on show in the Pier Street car park after arriving from Glastonbury. The popular event attracted a crowd of onlookers despite wet weather.
Burnham’s Mayor, Ken Smout, had the tricky job of judging them and The Mayor’s Cup for the best vehicle went to a 1951 AEC Monmouth Major III tanker owned by Norman Haines from Gillingham. Norman told Burnham-On-Sea.com he was “delighted and quite shocked” to have won.
The Mayor said he had chosen the tanker for its uniqueness and the quality of its upkeep.
Councillor Dennis Davey also presented the trophy for the councillors’ choice to Tim Lane from Wells, owner of a 1967 Rolls Royce.
The event’s organiser, Den Stone, said he was pleased with how the event had gone. “We had a good line-up of vehicles again this year and it was nice to have a good welcome, even if the weather was wet,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Thanks go to everyone who has supported us. We hope to have raised a good sum for the Mendip Multiple Sclerosis Society.”
