Large crowds turned out to watch over 120 classic vehicles arrive in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday evening (June 1st) during the 20th annual Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run.
Fire engines, classic cars, lorries and motorbikes were among the 120 vehicles on show at this year’s event – one of the biggest to date.
Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress, Martrin and Arlene Cox, had the tricky job of picking a winner and chose a 1942 Ford Jeep owned by Jeff Glasser from Meare, pictured.
Cllr Cox told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a tough decision to pick a winner because of the superb quality of the many vehicles, but this jeep really stood out for us.”
He added: “It was great to see a good turnout of onlookers this year, helped by the sunny weather. I am very supportive of events like this that bring people into our town.”
The event’s organiser, Den Stone added: “Thanks go to everyone who has supported us again this year.”
“We have raised over £35,000 for charity over the past 20 years from this events and hope to have raised a good sum for the Happy Landings Animal rescue rehoming and welfare centre, this year’s charity.”
Saturday’s run began in Glastonbury and the vehicles then moved into Burnham, arriving at the Pier Street Car Park on the South Esplanade, before returning.
