Residents in Burnham-On-Sea have this week snapped up almost 30 of the mini-lighthouses which went on display across the town this summer.
34 of the 6ft-replicas of the iconic wooden lighthouse have been on show for four months as part of the fundraising Lighthouse Trail.
A silent auction of the structures ended on Sunday and organiser Sarah Berryman from HABA (Highbridge and Burnham Artists) told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the sale had been a success.
“We have just four or five of the lighthouses left and the auction has raised a really great amount, so we’re very pleased with how it’s gone,” she said.
“We received many great bids and everyone has had very positive things to say about the trail.”
“We are not revealing how much the individual lighthouses sold for, or who bought them, but I can say that the lighthouses which attracted the most interest were the illuminated glass lighthouse which was on show in the tourist information centre and the union flag lighhouse decorated by Paul Plume who built all the structures.”
She added: “A thank you party is now being planned for later this month when we hope to bring together everyone who has supported the trail over the last few months.”
“We’ll also be revealing how much was raised for our charity over the summer and making the presentation.”
“Anyone who wants to place a bid for the few remaining lighthouses should contact us via the HABA email address at burnhamlighthousetrail@gmail.com.”
All proceeds are going to Burnham-based cancer support charity Petal, which is run in memory of resident Christine Woodberry who died of cancer.
“The Burnham Lighthouse Trail team are so very grateful for all the support shown during the trail and would like to thank everyone involved – the sponsors, the artists, the builders, and the locations who have hosted them,” added Sarah.
