Burnham-On-Sea’s mini lighthouse trail comes to an end next week after a successful summer display – and residents can now submit bids to buy the colourful wooden structures.
34 of the 6ft-replicas of the town’s iconic beach lighthouse have been on show since May in local shops and businesses.
Now, organisers are selling the lighthouses for charity via a silent auction and bidders are being urged to register their interest before the deadline of midnight this Sunday (August 31st).
“Guide prices start at £100 as a rough guide but all sensible bids will be seriously considered and the highest bid will win a lighthouse to take home,” said Sarah Berryman from HABA (Highbridge and Burnham Artists).
“We suggest that bidders specify which of the lighthouses they are interested in, along with a second and third choice to maximise their chance of winning one.”
“Catalogues listing all of the lighthouses are available now from the tourist information centre on Burnham seafront and GW Hurleys and please see the HABA website for full instructions.”
The successful auction winners will be contacted within one week of the auction closing.
Sarah explained that a physical auction of the lighthouses would not be taking place. “The recommendation from local auctioneers is to hold a silent auction instead of a physical one to maximise the funds raised for our charity.”
All proceeds will go to Burnham-based cancer support charity Petal, which is run in memory of resident Christine Woodberry who died of cancer.
“The Burnham Lighthouse Trail team are so very grateful for all the support shown during the trail and would like to thank everyone involved – the sponsors, the artists, the builders, and the locations who have hosted them,” added Sarah.
She said that trail maps are still available to buy from the tourist information centre on Burnham’s seafront and participating shops until September 1st. The tourist information centre also has lighthouse mugs, keyrings and fridge magnets available as well as the postcards.
