Teen assaulted on train near Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge station

-

An appeal has been issued by British Transport Police after a teenage woman was sexually assaulted on a train as it approached Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea railway station.

A man fell into the victim after the train jolted and then “touched her inappropriately”, says British Transport Police.

The incident occurred as the train approached Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea station on Saturday, April 8th at 4.45pm.

The woman was travelling to Taunton when the man boarded the train with three other men and a woman at Weston-super-Mare.

As the man groped her, the woman shouted but he ignored her and continued to assault her.

Members of the public intervened and he stopped before leaving with the group at Bridgwater.

Investigating officer Det Con Amy Perry told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I would like to speak to anyone who was on board this train who may have seen or heard what happened, or anyone who knows anything about this group of people or the incident described.”

“Other passengers came to the victim’s aid so they may be able to help with our enquiries and I would like to speak to them as soon as possible.”

“We are working to establish the circumstances of this incident, and the victim is being fully supported by officers as the investigation proceeds.”

Anyone with any information should call DC Perry on 0800-405040 or text 61016, quoting reference 148 18/04/17.
