A furious guesthouse owner in Burnham-On-Sea has hit out at vandals who attacked his award-winning garden by smashing flower pots and throwing flowers across pavements on Friday night (July 23rd).
Police were called to Ashbourne House in Berrow Road at 10.20pm after the incident, which involved a group of youths.
Owner Colin Jennings, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com how he confronted them.
“I heard shouts and screams and looked outside to see eight to nine teenagers running around, pulling up the flowers and smashing flower pots.”
“They ran off along Berrow Road in the direction of Burnham. I jumped into my car and approached the group, but they denied any involvement. I called the police, who are now looking into the whole matter.”
He added: “I just don’t understand why vandals would want to damage this garden – it’s brainless. It’s particularly annoying as the Burnham In Bloom judges are due to assess us and other local businesses in the town over the next few days.”
Ashbourne House was among the winners of the Burnham In Bloom competition last year. Anyone with information about Friday’s incident should vontact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
