Highbridge road closure ‘will be in place until late August’

-

Work to construct a new roundabout in Highbridge is behind schedule, leading to a disruptive road closure being extended until the end of August.

Somerset County Council had expected the work, which is being carried out by developers working on behalf of Asda, to last no longer than seven months.

Since a road closure along Burnham Road (pictured) came into force on January 2nd, the work should have been completed by the end of this month.

But Burnham and Highbridge Town Council Clerk Eileen Shaw confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that “the work would not finish until late August at the earliest.”

Somerset County Council spokeswoman Elizabeth Kuln added: “The road closure will be continue to be in place until the new roundabout is fully complete, whenever that is.”

Direct access onto the A38 from Burnham Road is blocked by the work, but the spur road onto the A38 running past the War Memorial is open.
