Cheap supermarket petrol could soon be available in Highbridge after the town’s Asda store this week revealed it wants to build a new petrol station.
The supermarket in Caxton Road hopes to launch a petrol station near the entrance to its store.
Manager John McGregor told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s something that many of our customers want and which I am regularly asked for.”
“The cost of petrol in the Burnham area is not cheap and a petrol station here in Highbridge is a facility we want to introduce.”
“No formal plans have been drawn up or submitted to the council, but we are discussing our options.”
Petrol prices could tumble in the Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge area if Asda’s plans for a cut-price petrol station do go ahead.
Highbridge County Councillor John Woodman gave a cautious welcome to the news, telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I would want to see the full plans before commenting, particularly if the petrol station is close to homes near the store, but I and many other motorists would certainly welcome cheap petrol.”
