Plans for new Asda petrol station in Highbridge edge a step closer

-

Asda’s plans to build a new low-cost petrol station outside its Highbridge store have moved a further step closer this week.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Development Control Committee gave the go-ahead for the eight-pump petrol station at the Caxton Road store last November.

And this week, the supermaket has submitted an application to the council for ‘advertisement consent’, requesting permission to display four non-illuminated canopy fascia signs, plus one internally illuminated totem sign and four non-illuminated sign posts at the petrol station.

It is expected to be the final ‘hurdle’ that the store needs to cross before building work starts this year.

Comments on the application are welcome as part of Sedgemoor District Council’s normal planning consultation process before September 12th. The application reference number is 11/14/00090.

Asda altered its original plans for the site by reversing the proposed entrance and exit locations at the proposed petrol station to address road safety concerns.

However, some nearby residents are unimpressed and claim the petrol station will create extra noise, pollution and disturbance.
