Highbridge recycling centre introduces new asbestos disposal rules

-

New rules for asbestos disposal are being introduced at Highbridge’s recycling centre on the town’s Isleport industrial estate from March 1st.

The potentially dangerous substance will only be accepted if the site has been contacted in advance.

The toxic materials must also be double wrapped and sealed in heavy duty plastic.

Alternatively, Somerset County Council can arrange an asbestos collection for a fee.

The changes are being introduced by Somerset Waste Partnership, whose manager Steve Read said: “Somerset is raising the standards to ensure everyone’s safety, whether it is residents disposing of asbestos or other recycling site users and staff.”

To arrange an asbestos collection, call Somerset County Council on 0845 3459188 or email somersetdirect@somerset.gov.uk
