Army cadets from Burnham-On-Sea and across Somerset have returned from an action-packed annual summer camp on the North Cornwall coast.
Using the fantastic facilities of RAF St Mawgan as their base, 100 cadets from units across our area joined nearly 300 more from all the other areas of the county.
The Army Cadets took part in a huge range of activities, experiences and training.
From military training exercises, rifle shooting, first aid training, parades, cinema visits and a fantastic package of coasteering and surfing, all who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
“Annual Camp has helped me overcome all my fears,” said one cadet. “I never would have been brave enough to go diving in to the sea from a cliff, but the Army Cadets have given me the chance. Brilliant!”
This year’s camp cost just £65 per cadet, which was fantastic value for a 10 day adventure holiday which included three meals a day, transport to and from all activities (and camp itself), and any activities enjoyed during the camp period.
The accommodation was fantastic this year, with cadets benefiting from the up to date facilities provided at RAF St Mawgan.
With eight different locations across the North Somerset area parading on different nights of the week, there is an opportunity for plenty of young people to get involved with the Army Cadets.
The minimum joining age is 12 and in school year 8. This enables groups of friends to all try the Army Cadets out together in September.
The Army Cadets offer a structured training programme together with a wide range of activities and experiences that cater for a wide range of young people’s interests.
For more information about any Army Cadet unit in the local area you can contact TRACER@armymail.mod.uk, call 01823 284486 or visit the national website www.armycadets.com/somersetacf.

Local Army Cadet Units are located in Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-On-Sea, Cheddar, Clevedon, Nailsea, Portishead and Yatton.
