Three Burnham-On-Sea army cadets who represented the county in a regional Pentathlon are celebrating coming second overall.
Cpl George Manchip, Cpl Peter Cebulak and LCpl Angel Mortimer all competed in the gruelling two-day completion near Torpoint in Cornwall that involved five different sports against many different Army Cadet, Marine Cadet and Air Cadet teams from across the south west.
The event began with a brisk 2.5 mile cross country run around the Royal Navy course at HMS Raleigh followed by an indoor assault and agility course.
The cadets then moved onto a competitive shoot and finished the day with a mile speed walk on tarmac. The team were in second spot overall at the end of day one.
The second day involved a 150m swimming competition and all three proved they were up to the task by winning the event. Despite not being able to claw back enough points, the team gave the overall winners, Devon Army Cadet Force, a very close run in. Cpl Cebulak also picked up the prize for the best individual shot.
New Burnham Army Cadets are welcome to join the group and can be male or female and aged 12-18. The cadets centre is located opposite Cassis Close and is open on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7pm – 9pm.
