Burnham-On-Sea is bracing itself for several days of high Spring tides this week.
It comes as the Arco Dart dredger (pictured) finally sailed past Burnham-On-Sea on its way to Dunball Wharf on Monday evening (March 19th) after gale force winds and rough seas had earlier forced the ship to abort the trip.
Winds reached Gale Force 9 in the Bristol Channel, prompting the ship’s crew to postpone their trip to Dunball during Sunday’s high tide.
The rough weather is of particular interest given that several of the year’s highest ‘spring tides’ occur during the next 24 hours.
On Tuesday (March 20th) there will be an 11.7 metre high tide at 8pm in Burnham, followed on Wednesday by an 11.9 metre tide at 8.19am, and an 11.6m tide at 8.39pm.
The stormy sea conditions led to Somerset’s coastline being put on a Flood Watch by the Environment Agency on Monday. The advisory extended from Porlock to Avonmouth, and included Burnham, although no specific warning for our town was issued.
