Local Paralympic archer Jo Frith was among the competitors at Burnham-On-Sea Company of Archers’ annual May open tournament this week.
Jo – who won a team gold medal and an individual silver medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics – was welcomed to the event at Burnham’s BASC ground.
She chatted to the other people present and explained the importantance of supporting local archery clubs, adding that she hopes to inspire the next generation of archers.
Jo also brought along her medals with her and allowed those present to try them on, as pictured above.
Adam Joyce from the Burnham Company of Archers told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Needless to say, Jo showed her class on the day, winning both the ladies’ compound competition and also the best gold of the day.”
“We wish Jo all the best as she begins the run-up to the selection shoots for this year’s world championships in China towards the end of the year.”
He added: “Archery is one of a few sports where you can turn up to a local club competition and find yourself competing against one of the country’s elite athletes.”
“It is also a sport which people with disabilities can compete against able-bodied people, and also children can compete or just partake, alongside their parents.”
For further information about archery, see Burnham Company of Archers’ website here. The club regularly holds ‘have-a-go’ sessions where visitors can give archery a try under the expert eyes of their instructors.
