Residents in Highbridge have this week expressed their concern at proposals to convert this town centre tattoo shop into an amusement arcade.
Highbridge Residents Association says it is “appalled” at plans by a local businessman to convert Highbridge Ink in Market Street into a fruit machine and gaming arcade.
The group’s Vice Chairman, Tina Gray, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are very strongly opposed to these plans. An arcade here would be a drastic mistake for Highbridge.”
“We want to see new businesses opening in the town, but Market Street does not need this kind of shop. It would create a whole range of problems.”
“To encourage gambling in a town that’s already classed as a deprived area would only add to the problems we have.”
“An arcade here would also lead to groups of young people congregating outside, causing a nuisance to nearby residents.”
“We are appalled at these plans and have already been in contact with Sedgemoor District Council to lodge an objection.”
Residents have until February 4th to submit their feedback to the council regarding the application, which is for a change of business use for the shop at 2 Market Street.
