Highbridge’s Apex Park has a brand new seating area thanks to the work of a group of students from Bridgwater College.
A new circular seating area was formally unveiled on Monday (January 19th) after a project by Bridgwater College’s carpentry students was helped by funding from Sedgemoor District Council and The Friends of Apex Park.
The £800 project, led by Friends of Apex Park volunteer Valerie-Jane Morley, involved Bridgwater College’s carpentry students designing, making and installing the seating area which has become a welcome addition at the award-winning park.
The new bench seating, which accommodates around 16 people, was formally unveiled within the new woodland walk area of the park on Monday by Sedgemoor District Council Chairman Councillor Peter Downing, pictured with Valerie-Jane.
The new and improved area of Apex Park also features a bark chipping path for ease of access and to encourage exploration of the wood.
Valerie-Jane told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our splendid new bench is placed at a half-way point from the River Brue back to the Apex car park – a welcome rest for those who may need to take the weight off their feet or just watch the clouds roll by.”
Later in the year, a new interpretive walking trail will be launched to encourage further use of this area.
The wooden wraparound bench has been fixed in place on a mature Black Poplar tree. The bench is made from sturdy European hardwood and is expected to have a lifespan of roughly 25 years.
