Highbridge’s Apex Park is to get a brand new seating area thanks to the work of a group of students at Bridgwater College.
A new circular seating area is to be installed next week after work from Bridgwater College’s carpentry students and funding from Sedgemoor District Council and The Friends of Apex Park.
The £800 project, which was led by Friends of Apex Park volunteer Valerie-Jane Morley, involves Bridgwater College’s carpentry students designing, making and installing the seating area which will be a welcome addition to the Green Flag award-winning park.
The new bench seating, which accommodates around 16 people, will be unveiled within the new woodland walk area of the park on Monday 19th January.
This new and improved area of Apex Park also features a bark chipping path for ease of access and to encourage exploration of the woodland.
Later in the year, a new interpretive walking trail will be launched to encourage further use of this area. The wooden wraparound bench will be fixed in place on a mature Black Poplar tree. The bench is made from sturdy European hardwood and is expected to have a lifespan of roughly 25 years.
Valerie-Jane told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our splendid new bench is placed at a half-way point from the River Brue back to the Apex car park – a welcome rest for those who may need to take the weight off their feet or just watch the clouds roll by.”
