A turf-cutting ceremony was held at Highbridge’s Apex Park on Wednesday (September 2nd) to mark the start of work to create a new £140,000 play area.
Cllr Ann Bown, the district council’s portfolio holder for health and well-being, led the ceremony with staff from the council’s parks team, as pictured here.
The brand new play area, which is being partly funded by National Lottery money, was due to be completed by the start of the summer holidays, but a shortage of equipment was recently blamed for a delay to the project.
The work fianlly got underway on Wednesday and is now scheduled to last between six and eight weeks.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported earlier this year how a so-called ‘playscape’ is being created at the site using £60,000 of cash from the Big Lottery Fund, a further £73,462 from developer contributions, and £6,538 from the district council.
The play area will include new mounds, a new bridge, tunnel, embankment slides, a log hide and den, climbing pieces, as well as pod swings.
