Highbridge’s Apex Park lakes have been given the all-clear this week as tests have revealed that potentially toxic blue green algae is no longer present in the water.
Mike Long from Highbridge Angling Association confirmed the positive news on Monday evening (October 15th), and told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Apex lakes have been declared clear of algae and are now open to anglers again.”
Sedgemoor District Council, which manages the park, had urged Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge dog walkers to keep away from the water.
The algae was first identified in the lakes in July and a series of water quality tests had found it was still present until this week.
As a precaution, visitors were advised to stay away from the water and dog owners were told to keep their pets from entering the lakes.
The green algae has been a frequent occurence during periods of hot weather over recent years.
