A £30,000 project to create these two new islands and 21 new fishing platforms at Highbridge’s Apex Willdlife Park is nearing completion this week.
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report last year how the park had been chosen to receive £25,000 of funding from the Environment Agency and a further £5,000 from Sedgemoor District Council to create modernised angling facilities.
Since then, brand new fishing platforms have been constructed around the main fishing lake and two new islands have been formed to protect fish and encourage breeding in the lake.
Iain Turner, the Environment Agency’s Fisheries Technical Officer for the Wessex Area, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is great for the park. The work is a real boost that is greatly improving the park’s fishing facilities.”
“The islands are now in place – they don’t look much right now but give them a few weeks and the pre-planted vegetation will have started to grow and they will look different again.”
