Flag-raising ceremony held at award-winning Apex Park

-

Celebrations were held at Highbridge’s Apex Leisure and Wildlife Park this week when it was formally given its Green Flag Award for a fifth year.

A short flag-raising ceremony was held at the park on Wednesday, as pictured, where this year’s Green Flag was unveiled.

Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Michael Clarke led the ceremony with Sedgemoor Chairwoman Gill Slocombe, watched by members of the Friends of Apex Park.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last month that judges had praised the park’s excellent use of green space, well-maintained facilities and high standards of safety and security.

Harley Cook, Parks & Open Spaces Policy Officer for Sedgemoor, said “A Green Flag award is a sign of a well managed, clean and enticing public space and Sedgemoor are proud to have received the Green Flag award again this year, for the fifth year running.”

“It’s also great that this year’s Playday has been so well attended and has brought so many locals and visitors into the Park’. Sedgemoor is pleased to be able to contribute staff time and resource to these type of Community partnership events and provided assistance with event organisation and attendance on the day, post event tidy-up and arranged a Marquee, Portaloo facilities, Climbing wall hire and First Aid cover.”

The award recognises the work put in by the Friends group plus Sedgemoor’s Parks Officers, Dog Wardens, Clean Surroundings Team. The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces across England and Wales.
