An estimated turnout of 7,000 people descended on Highbridge’s Apex Park on Wednesday (August 3rd) for a day of fun-filled activities on National Play Day.
The free event included more than 35 workshops and activities including dragon boats, climbing, circus skills, rope building, art activities, bouncy castles, craft making, adventure sports, street dancing, willow weaving, face painting, drumming and more.
One of the organisers, Rosie Pike, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a very busy day and the weather really helped us and boosted the turnout.”
“An estimated 7,000 people visited the event during the day – easily a record.”
“Everyone enjoyed themselves and the feedback was really positive, although we did have a few complaints about the queues for some activities.”
She added: “We just hope we can organise another event again next year. The day costs £5,000 to hold and we cannot rely on council grants any longer, so need as much support from the public as possible.”
National Play Day is held as part of a nationwide initiative to encourage thousands of children and young people to get outside and play.
