A 44-year-old man has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and driving without insurance following a dramatic crash in Burnham-On-Sea early on Sunday (May 10th).
One man was taken to hospital after a BMW careered off Marine Drive, demolishing two lamp posts, smashing through a brick wall and ending up in a front garden, as first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com here.
Residents were woken by the sound a loud bang at 4.15am when the accident occurred on the corner of Marine Drive and Highburn Close, close to the entrance to Apex Wildlife Park.
Police spokesman Steve Game told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday morning: “Patrick Caulton, a 44 year-old man from Bridgwater, was arrested and charged with aggravated vehicle taking and driving without insurance.”
“He was taken to Bridgwater Police Station and has been bailed to appear before Sedgemoor Magistrates Court on May 19th.”
The badly damaged car was taken away by a commercial recovery service early on Sunday morning and a police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
