Burnham police announce new crackdown on anti-social behaviour

-

Anti-social behaviour and underage drinking will be targeted during a special police operation in Burnham-On-Sea this Friday (August 24th).

Burnham police will be joined by officers from across the area to launch the crackdown.

“We will focus on criminal damage, underage drinking and violent crime, particularly that which affects residents in the town centre,” Burnham’s Sergeant Ian Kennett told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Sgt Kennett, who is pictured above with PC Pete Wills, will also be meeting with Burnham pub licensees this week to seek their support in making the town a safer and stronger place.

“The message I want to send is that anti-social behaviour is not acceptable in Burnham-On-Sea,” he said this week.

“We would encourage people to drink sensibly and to enjoy themselves without making others fearful, and to respect local residents and the business community especially late at night.”

“We get many complaints relating to late night noise from residents in the town, and we should all do whatever we can to reduce the problem for our residents.”

Police Community Support Officers are writing to past victims of criminal damage and residents in certain areas, so that they can contact staff engaged on this operation if they hear or see any antisocial behaviour.

“This will allow staff to be deployed quickly and for Sedgemoor District Council staff to monitor incidents using their CCTV cameras. The operation will run from 6pm Friday night to 2am on Saturday morning.”

Police officers will be carrying out visits to licensed premises and alcohol will be seized from young persons and any adults drinking in designated alcohol free zones. PCSOs will also be testing drinks found in possession of young people for alcohol.
