Burnham-On-Sea paralympic swimmer Anthony Stephens is celebrating this week after winning his event during the IPC World Swimming Championships in South Africa.
The former King Alfred School student, pictured here, won the 200 metres freestyle race in his S5 disablement group – much to the delight of his family and many supporters back home here in Burnham.
His victory was particularly sweet as he beat Spanish swimmer Sebastian Rodriguez, who just pipped Anthony to the gold medal at the Athens Paralympics in 2004.
Anthony also clinched three bronze medals and broke two British records at the event. His achievement is all the more remarkable because he only recently recovered from a shoulder injury which meant he was unable to train for 18 months.
The brave 20-year-old suffers from a shorted right arm and a three-limb deficiency but never lets this get in the way of his life.
