A star of film and stage visited Burnham-On-Sea on Friday evening (May 29th) when she told anecdotes from her incredible career and sang a line-up of popular songs.
Anita Harris – who is best known for starring in many popular Carry On comedy films, including Follow That Camel and Carry On Doctor – perfomed at Burnham’s Princess Theatre in front of a big crowd.
Anita told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is such a wonderful theatre and Somerset is a special place for me. I was born in Midsomer Norton so it’s like a homecoming! Burnham is such a lovely place – my parents did their courting in Weston – and so I love the area.”
“There was a super audience this evening and it’s great to see local people supporting this lovely theatre. You know that when you go on stage and you quickly feel they are supporting the theatre as well as you.”
Anita was also one of the brightest young singing stars of the 1960s, performing in shows alongside Dusty Springfield and Petula Clark. She learned her trade from Frank Sinatra and Mae West in Las Vegas, and had a long-running starring role in the musical Cats.
