Proposals to expand a popular Berrow tourism attraction have this week been rejected by district council planners, who claim the project would adversely affect the surrounding countryside.
Animal Farm in Red Road, Berrow had applied for full planning permission to build three new attractions in time for the summer tourist season including an animal-themed carousel, animal adventure boats, a water-based playground.
However, Sedgemoor District Council’s planning department has this week turned down the application, claiming it would adversely impact the area.
Case Officer Rebecca Miller explained: “The proposed development would create undue visual impact from public vantage points.”
“It would detract from the character and appearance of the countryside and would not maintain or enhance the environment contrary to guidance contained within Planning Policies and the Sedgemoor District Local Plan.”
Berrow Parish Council said it had no objections to the proposals when it first considered them last year.
