A Highbridge resident turned pages of The Guardian newspaper into an elaborately decorated ‘Guardian Angel’ in time for the town’s Angel festival at the weekend.
St John’s Church organised the inaugural festival, which included a display of ‘scarecrow angels’.
Jacqui Cooper, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I tried to think of a humorous design with a ‘guardian angel’ theme and came up with the clever idea of using the newspaper of the same name!”
“It certainly had its challenges – I spent many hours folding, cutting, arranging and sticking the design together. We went through several copies of the paper to get it just right, but it was worth it – I am delighted with the final result and am proud of her!”
The design was among several 20 large angels that went on show at the angel festival, which was held in the church on Saturday and Sunday.
Knitters from in and around Highbridge also created over 650 mini angels which were distributed around the town on Saturday morning. These angels all had a message attached to bring to the finder.
Co-organiser Liz Davies, pictured above, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted with how it went – we wanted to create a fun new festival to get the religious message out at Christmas.”
“Having seen several local villages running scarecrow festivals, we decided to follow that idea and focus in on angel theme.”
Rev Sharon Crossman added: “We had a lot of people come from across the area to see the angels over the weekend.”
“Seeing their faces light up with smiles and joy when they saw the angels made it all worth it.”
The weekend also included a Christmas fair and an ‘Angel Praise’ service on Sunday evening. There was also a chance for visitors to have their photo taken with an angel halo.
