Fire crews rescue alpaca stranded in ditch near Burnham

-

Three fire crews from Cheddar and Bridgwater were sent to the incident at 9.20am in the village of Tarnock.

The animal was retrieved unhurt, but shaken, following a 30-minute operation.

Firefighter Bob Salway said: “After 33 years in the fire service, that’s the first alpaca we’ve retrieved from a water-filled ditch.”

Owner Carolyn Allen said she had not had the alpaca for long and would be putting up a fence to stop the animal getting stuck again.
