Highbridge’s new Aldi supermarket is set to be opened this week by an Olympic silver medallist.
Team GB star Samantha Murray will open the brand new Aldi Highbridge store on Thursday 23rd August.
The track star brought home a silver medal in the Women’s Pentathlon in the London 2012 Olympics and will officially cut the ribbon to declare it open at 8am.
The first 30 people in the queue will get their hands on a complimentary bag of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi, as part of the supermarket’s mission to encourage healthy eating.
Samantha, who lives in Somerset, said: “I’m really looking forward to opening morning. It’s a great feeling to give back to a community that’s adopted me as its own for the past ten years. I hope I can inspire customers to stay active and maintain a healthy, balanced diet. With so much fresh produce on offer at Aldi, it’s really easy to do so.”
Speaking ahead of the opening, Store Manager Emma Marchant added: “We’re all really excited to meet Samantha on opening morning and we’re delighted she will be cutting the all-important ribbon to open our brand new store. We’ve got some fantastic opening week Specialbuys on offer, as well as some excellent prices on fresh, British produce, so we look forward to opening our doors to everyone on Thursday 23rd August.”
Spanning over 1,254 sqm of retail space, the store on the Isleport Business Park will offer an enhanced and varied shopping experience.
Customers can expect to find Aldi’s exclusive Specially Selected range, weekly fresh meat offers, and famous Super 6 fruit and vegetables in-store. Twice-weekly Specialbuys, available every Thursday and Sunday, will offer unbeatable prices on a wide variety of handy household items from gardening equipment to electrical items.
The store will be open: Monday – Saturday from 8am – 10pm; and Sundays 10am-4pm.
Aldi is the UK’s fifth largest and fastest growing supermarket with over 775 stores and over 30,000 employees. In the 12 weeks to 15th July, Aldi grew sales by 10.9% and has a 7.5% UK share of the market. In 2018 Aldi will open 70 new stores and by 2022 will operate over 1,000 stores.
Meanwhile, Travelodge’s upcoming hotel next to the new Aldi store remains on track to open its new 75-bed new hotel on the site in October 2018.
As Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here, Travelodge is to build a four-storey hotel with 75 bedrooms, 75 parking spaces, and a cafe/bar.
