Young people from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have been chosen to perform at the finale of the BBC School Proms concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London later this month.
The concert, to be held on November 12th, will feature more than 500 children and young people from Somerset including several from Burnham’s St Joseph’s School and King Alfred School in Highbridge.
The youngsters will be singing, dancing and playing as part of a joint project between Somerset County Council’s Somerset Music Service and the Somerset County Youth Choir (SCYC).
Pupils from primary and secondary schools across Somerset will also be performing a specially commissioned piece by local composer Sammy Hurden at the finale.
A full rehearsal is due to take place in Yeovil this Saturday, November 8th, which will be the first time the 550 strong choir, along with local musicians and dancers, will have come together to rehearse.
Councillor Gloria Cawood, Somerset County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Education, said: “Somerset County Council provides services for local residents at all stages of their lives, and the Somerset Music service is invaluable in promoting music in primary and secondary schools across the County. It is to their great credit that talented young musicians from Somerset are to perform at the Royal Albert Hall.”
