Hovercraft chairman to run for vacant Burnham Town Council seat

Burnham-On-Sea Conservatives have selected Alan Miller as their candidate for the Town Council by-election in Burnham East on 8th December.

Alan is the chairman of BARB, the group that runs Burnham’s rescue hovercraft.

He was also in the headlines earlier this year after winning a police bravery award for wrestling a sword-wielding man to the ground. The man was threatening a group of people in Brean with a samurai sword before Mr Miller intervened.

The by-election has been caused by the resignation of Liberal Democrat Joyce Smith who was elected in 2004.

The Liberal Democrats are expected to put forward their candidate, Chris Williams, a former town and district councillor, for the position.

Polling day is Thursday 8th December and nominations close on Friday 11th November.
