A survey airplane swept over Burnham-On-Sea’s beach on Thursday afternoon (February 12th) as it carried out a study on erosion in Bridgwater Bay.
The twin-engine aircraft performed several sweeps of the bay over the course of 15 minutes as it gathered data about the area’s shifting mud and sands.
Alison Matthews from Geomatics, the company that is undertaking the work on behalf of the Environment Agency, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The plane has this week been collecting data about the shape of the beach as part of a five-year project studying Britain’s changing coastline.”
“We’re working with the Environment Agency as part of their coastal programme and will be carrying out regular sweeps of Bridgwater Bay using this airplane over the coming years.”
