-

These were the scenes outside Wedmore on Sunday evening (March 25th) after a light aircraft crashed into a field, requiring the pilot to be air-lifted to hospital.

Police, fire and ambulance crews rushed to the scene at 4.34pm after the two-seater aircraft came down.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The single male pilot was out of the aircraft when we arrived and was assessed by paramedics. He was later transferred to hospital via air ambulance.”

The aircraft also brought down several power lines and the surrounding area was made safe by Western Power Distribution.

The pilot was taken by air ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. Police later confirmed that the pilot had been left “dazed and confused” by the crash but had escaped major injury.

The incident happened in Western Drove, Godney – a couple of miles outside Wedmore, near Burnham-On-Sea. The cause of the incident is unknown.
