Burnham air cadets bring home the silverware in regional competition

-

Air cadets from Burnham-On-Sea are celebrating after doing well in a competition against dozens of other squadrons from across the south west.

The youngsters from 290 Weston & Burnham & Highbridge Squadron travelled to Okehampton army camp in Devon to take part in the annual contest against 30 other squadrons from Devon and Somerset.

“The squadron took part in a number of competitions throughout the day from drill, banner drill, photography and art, first aid, aircraft recognition and model making,” the group’s Chris Garrett told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The cadets – who are aged between 13 and 18 – gained first place in the model making, under 16 aircraft recognition for a second year, as well as for the fourth year running in both the over 16 individual and the team trophy competitions.

“The cadets will now go on and represent the south west region in a competition next weekend with the chance of representing the Air Cadets against other cadet forces,” added Chris.

290 Squadron parades are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7.30-9.45 in Weston and Burnham-On-Sea. For more information, call 01934 647805 or 01278 781409 during these times or visit www.290sqn.org.uk for more information.
