Training heads skywards for Burnham and Highbridge air cadets

-

Take off and landing practice, air navigation and aerobatics were just some of the activities that this group of Air Cadets from Burnham & Highbridge’s 290 Air Squadron got up to during an action-packed trainining session this week.

After having a safety brief, putting on flying suits and helmets, the cadets went up into the skies for a 30-minute flight from Colerne airfield, near Bath.

The cadets had the opportunity to get ‘hands on’ with the aircraft and a structured program given by the pilots showed the cadets, some of whom had never flown before, the experience of learning how the aircraft is operated.

Warrant Officer Steve Warr, who took the cadets flying, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “You could tell the cadets loved the experience from the smiles on their faces.”

The group meets every Thursday evening at 7.30pm and provides a wide range of activities, varying from adventure and leadership training, to gliding.

Those interested in joining should visit the unit, located in Highbridge Road (opposite the entrance to the Sea Cadets access road in Cassis Close) or call Flying Officer Chris Garrett on 07980 729980 or Jeff Jackson on 01278 781649.
